Get your API key

copadre runs on your own Claude API key. You’ll need a key before your agents can answer. It takes about five minutes.

Before you start

You’ll create the key in the Claude Platform, not in copadre. Anthropic bills you directly for what your agents use; copadre never sees or touches that bill. Have a card or payment method handy — a brand-new key can’t answer until the account has billing set up.

Create your key in the Claude Platform

1. Open the Claude Platform.

   Go to platform.claude.com and create an account, or sign in.

2. Add billing credit.

   Open Settings → Billing and add a payment method or buy prepaid usage credits. This is what pays for your AI usage, billed by Anthropic directly. Skipping this is the most common reason a new key returns errors — the key exists, but requests are refused until the account can be billed.

3. Create an API key.

   Go to API keys and choose Create Key. Give it a descriptive name — something like copadre-live — so it’s easy to recognise later if you ever need to rotate or revoke it.

4. Copy the key straight away.

   The key is shown once. It starts with sk-ant- followed by a long string. Copy it now and keep it somewhere safe. If you lose it, there’s no way to view it again — you simply revoke it and create a new one.

Add your key to copadre

Back in the copadre app, add the key to your account in Settings. copadre stores it encrypted and uses it to run your agents. You can update it at any time.
